88 Circles Above Tonight`s opener is 88 Circles Above. I had never heard of this band before, but they made a solid impression. 88 Circles Above fits nicely into the nu-metal genre. The band produces a good sound, nothing special, but with their female singer they are definitely different from similar bands today. They seem influenced by Korn, Kittie and The Start, but they’re not as heavy as Kittie and not as new wave as The Start. The band quite surprised me, because they looked so confident tonight, but apparently this was their fourth gig at the Melkweg. They didn`t get much response, but that`s rather normal for a support act. The singer smiled a lot to the audience though and that seemed to help a little bit. The band got a nice applause, but was that for their good performance or for the fact that soon Agresión would enter the stage? Agresión Agresión already played with bands like Mudvayne and Cypress Hill. With this performance the guys present their new CD: "Cultura 3" to the public. The Melkweg is not completely sold out, but still there are a lot of people who’ve come to see Agresión. Agresión sets off with `Forget`, the first track of `Cultura 3`. It seems like most of the audience has already bought the new CD, because there is a lot of response to this song. The party definitely starts when they play "AIDS", one of their many political songs. They`ve been inspired by the growing poverty and misery in their homecountry Venezuela. Though they can`t do anything about that directly, they can tell the world about it through their music. With songs like `Deaf World`, `Rumours Of War` and `Pull The Trigger` they try to bring you this message. The rest of their set is filled with tracks from `Cultura 3` and alternated with songs like `Too Many Years` and `Care`. Agresión ends its show with `My Sin` with a guest appearance of Remi Tjon Ajong from Green Lizard. Altogether a good performance, except for the fact that some songs sounded alike. Agresión shows that it’s one of the few Dutch nu-metal bands that can compete with its American colleagues. (Pics are from the REZ archive)
