This night I did not plan on reviewing, but just enjoying a good show and drinking some beers. But sometimes I just can’t help it, and fortunately I also had my camera with me just in case… It was 22:30 hours and the Merleyn was filled with about 50 rockers. I felt almost embarrassed that the band had to play for such a small audience in my hometown.

This was the second time for Blind Dog to perform in Nijmegen, so the few people who were there, came for the band, and knew most of the songs. Starting off with “Blend” and slowly building the set, the band got really going, playing most songs from their fabulous debut album “The Last Adventures Of Captain Dog”; some in a “special version”. Also a few new songs and a song they never played before came along. The atmosphere (almost a private party among friends) was good enough to experiment and jam at times.

It is wonderful to see a band living their music, giving it all, not minding the small audience, but giving the few people present what they came for. A sweating, thundering Thomas Elenvik, banging the drums (nice fills by the way). Screaming guitars with lots of wah-wah solos, some well-chosen phaser, and a psycho delay intermezzo, by Joakim Thell, and singer/bass player Tobias Nilsson with his typical convincing vocals, freaking over his bass. (“Some people who play bass want to show other people that they play bass”) This still growing front man succeeded to get everyone of the small audience to be involved in this party.

Halfway down the show no one was hanging round the bar at the back anymore, everyone gathered around the stage, and enjoyed the party together with the band. After a very good show, including the encore with some Black Sabbath covers, the band and the audience were exhausted, but very satisfied. Looking forward to the next time.
