Mercenary
The opening band for this evening was the Danish power thrash formation Mercenary. Tonight Mercenary was promoting their second full length “Everblack” released in March of this year. They kicked of with “Seize the Night” and I knew this was going to be a good concert. The P.A. mix was alright and did justice to the tight sound on “Everblack”.

Songs from this album like “Screaming from the Heavens”, “Darkspeed” and the title track itself also sounded very tight. And the fat solos and a Nevermore made the picture complete. Pounding bass drums, fat guitar riffs and the technical skills of the band makes Mercenary a promising power thrash act for the future.

Callenish Circle
Second band on the bill was the melodic thrash metal act Callenish Circle. This was the second time the Dutchmen took the stage in Arnhem and, again, they were impressive. After playing at the Ozzfest festival and touring Europe with Amon Amarth and Vomitory, the band has become a well-oiled machine.

Just like support act Mercenary, Callenish Circle had a clear sound so songs from their “Flesh_Power_Dominion” album like “For what’s it good for” and “Take Me Along” sounded very fat and just as intense as on the record. The audience picked up the band’s enthousiasm very well and gave the band a big response. The grand finale of the concert was superb with the Death cover “Pull the Plug” and “Obey me…” from Callenish Circle’s current album.
