Soulfly   Podium Hardenberg-Hardenberg   May 27, 2001

The show SOULFLY would play at `t Podium was originally supposed to be the only show they`d play in Holland. However after a couple of days the bookings agency announced another show in Rotterdam.

Soulfly`s (tour)management was exclusive about one thing, though: there were absolutely no photo`s to be taken, no matter what.

(Cyn, who drove an hour and a half with me to take pictures tonight was not too pleased, to say the least, so she decided to write about the opening act. At least that way the trip wasn`t a total loss.)

Fortunately, the Dimension Seven-crew smuggled in a camera, so we can give you some images of their show..

So I guess this is my part…. Never seen them before? Well, that`s getting a bit impossible `cause they`re playing almost everywhere these days. At least here in Holland! I`ve seen them a couple of times before so I do know the drill.

But most of the guys and girls tonight had their first full contact with DIMENSION 7 ever. And I assure you that I must have been quite a blast. Energetic, powerful and filled with primal anger and hate.

The main ingredients for something that this audience digs. It gave them access to something new and for them yet to discover. Yes I do believe that Dimension Seven has gained some new `fans` tonight...

Apart from this unpleasant setback, the atmosphere at the sold out venue was great, and SOULFLY was welcomed with loud cheers from the audience. I`m sorry to say that, looking back, they didn`t deserve all that praise.

Actually, the show was very similar to the one they played in Tilburg, last year. They played some obligatory songs (Roots, Bleed), a lot of new stuff from `Primitive` (Jumpdafuckup, Back to the Primitive), and even did the thing with all the drums on stage… again.

Don`t get me wrong, I think Max Cavalera is a great musician, and a charismatic man, but I feel he`s starting to repeat himself. And when the show was finished, although I enjoyed myself, I couldn`t ignore a feeling of anxiety. Anxiety to see Max once again unite with his brother, and bring back the glory days of the almighty Sepultura.
