Atreyu Californian metalcore band Atreyu has the honor to open for BoySetsFire tonight. With their stunning mix of metallic riffs, hardcore screaming and surprising breakdowns they probably made a lot of new friends tonight. Suicide Notes And Butterfly Kisses is the poetic title of their latest album, released on Victory Records. Naming Victory Records as a dumb and shitty label is probably part of their strategy, because it didn`t hold the audience back from buying their album. Or was that just because they did a hell of a show tonight? Let`s stick to the last. I remember myself listening to their album for like two times, but it didn’t impress me. Fortunately their live performance is much better. You don`t see many drummers working like a machine and providing background vocals (sometimes lead vocals) at the same time… Yes, tonight is the drummer’s show and the guitarists of course! Playing and jumping as if they are in Iron Maiden or AC/DC, really made the audience enthusiastic. The first three songs tonight were a bit dull, but with every song played the band seems to improve and at the end of the show it was sad to hear them say that they were going to play their last song. If you have the chance to catch these guys live, please do so. I’ll bet you have an amusing evening! BoySetsFire With his characteristic talks about politics, the anti-Americanism (calling the U.S. the biggest terrorists out there) etc. Nathan alternates singing with explaining his lyrics to the audience without getting boring or irritating. Together with their new bass player Robert from Germany, Nathan, Chad, Josh and Matt give us one of the most memorable performances of this year so far. With often songs from their last two albums After The Eulogy and Tomorrow Comes Today, BoySetsFire showed that their new record deal didn`t bring grist to their mill. From "Our Time Honored Tradition Of Cannibalism" to "Last Year`s Nest" to audience favorites such as "Handful Of Redemption", "After The Eulogy" and "Rookie", I didn`t see anyone not having the time of his life. Maybe they would have earned some more respect by playing a couple more of the older songs, but altogether that didn`t bother me much. Great band, great performance, great idea to visit at least one more summer festival to see them play live again. I won`t regret it and neither will you! (Review: Dennis van den Berg) |
