The fact that I like music, I like photography and I like that Doornroosje is close to my home made me decide to check out Zomotta live on the aforementioned stage in Nijmegen even though I wasn’t that impressed with their latest album Call 4 Glory . Zomotta were to play as a supporting act to Lost Sounds, a US band I had never heard of. Entering the venue I was surprised to find out that there were only a dozen people there, only fifteen minutes before the show started. I always feel a bit embarrassed when so few people show up to see any band perform. At exactly nine O’clock four of the dozen stepped on stage to entertain the eight people left. The fact that PSV Eindhoven were playing the quarter final of the prestigious Champions League could have hardly been a reason for so few people showing up. How many punk rock fans with an interest in football do you know?

A compliment I have to make about Zomotta is the fact that they succeeded to entertain the whole 45 minutes; quite an effort considering the circumstances. Both guitar players had the wit and the joy to make the best of the show. The music of Zomotta is decent punk rock, leaning towards punk rock classics, that sounds much better live than on the album. After forty five minutes I have to conclude that I think that Zomotta would make an excellent festival band. I wouldn’t be surprised Zomotta gained some regional success with their accessible punk rock and enthusiastic presentation. The band definitely deserves more attention than it got tonight.

I could write a small review of Lost Sounds performance, but to be honest their music does absolutely nothing to me. I couldn’t write a sensible word about it, so I won’t bother trying. Fact is that not so many people showed up to see the band, I think there were fifty max. The people there didn’t seem to be too impressed with the band’s performance. Personally I’d say that this is a band more worth watching than listening to. After about one hour I returned home, pleased to find out that I was in time to see PSV win over Lyon by penalties.
