TenK
This relatively new band from The Netherlands is a very pleasant suprise indeed. With drums, one guitar, bass, a cellist and a female singer, TeNK chooses to follow the path which The Gathering decided to leave a few years ago.

That is, heavy rock and metal combined with female vocals. No keyboards, but a cello instead. Tonight, TeNK only plays one `old` song; "Wooden Fields". All the other stuff are new songs planned to be recorded soon.

"Prejudice", "Shelter", "Pieces", "Moments", "White Dress", "Shadow", "Get Dressed (In Your Own Way)" and "Insensitive" are on the setlist.

It`s obvious that the only girl on stage feels is a bit nervous, being in the famous Melkweg in front of some 600 visitors. But, this will get better soon, no doubt about that. Her voice is very good and that`s the most important thing.

The rest of the band already has a suprisingly confident attitude, which is cool. Labels and REZ readers: please keep this band in mind. TeNK is on their way.

The Gathering
As you might know, this is one of the last shows from this talented Dutch band for a long time, since they want to write new material, negotiate with their label Century Media and also rest a bit.

Songs they play are some new ones (from which I don`t know the titles yet) and other beauties are "Leaves", "In Motion", "Inuït", "Illuminating", "Marooned", "Red Is A Slow Colour", the overwhelmingly emotional "Saturnine" and the wonderful "Amity".

I must have seen this band xxx times, but I still admire them for their creativity and eagerness to experiment on every new album. With a superb sound and ditto lights, The Gathering again shows us why they`re so succesful all over Europe and in South-America.

Within just a few songs, the music and superb vocals from Anneke can take you higher. They`ll even lead you to another level if you like. The songs are so `open`, there`s something to relate to for each and everyone present in the Melkweg.

If you`re capable of creating such an intimate atmosphere ("Saturnine"!), then you`re really something special.

Let`s hope we`ll all be able to keep on enjoying this `special magic` from The Gathering in the years to come.
