What a beautiful sunday it was. Down’s visit to Tilburg excited me months before their arrival and it was worth while waiting for. After New Orleans being messed up past year I feared this might have taken it’s toll on the guys. Allthough I heared most of them had a safe sanctuary like Housten, Texas. Evenso I wasn’t sure about the state of their oncomming presence. Apart from this I thought this was going to be a very special show and so after a nice meal we entered 013.

Starting of with two giant videoscreens instead of a band showing videoclips of bands which probably influenced the members of Down combined with home video material from the past. Very nice to take a look into the world of Down. I guess not everyone was as enthousiast about this as I was, accourding to the social interaction of the audience. But then the main event was yet to come. Then finaly, after years of patience, they’re standing right in front of me and hundreds of exited fans. Opening the show with the first song from the second album “Lysergic Funeral Procecion” the show starts very nice. Frontman Philip Anselmo in yet another appearance screamed the afternoon smoke out of his longs reaching the depts I like to hear from him. The convincing art of his performance is unmistakenly a good sign. It didn’t take them to long to impress me. The sound I thought was great. They played like I hoped they would. Slow and steady as a rock. My personal highlight “learn from my mistakes”. I Look at my right and see gitarist Kirk Windstein gently smiling towards the audience. Now in somewhat a diffirent rol than he usely has as frontman in the heavy band Crowbar seen last year in 013. They’re playing their asses of with most of the nicest songs from the first two albums. Unfortunetly they didn’t play the rest of those nicest songs and I can’t wait for a thirth album. Since every song I heared this evening hit me in the face. From groovy rifs and spacy melody to heavy duty rock and back the show sounded solid as hell. It made me incapable of standing still. Even the lights where greatly done as be seen in the photo’s taken.

I cant escape the feeling they came to the Netherland to “hail the leaf” as well because of the attention they gave to this subject. Indeed it is true even I became under the influece of Down and the green they proudly recommended. It very well may be this made the music even more impressive but the adience they claimed where clearly as impressed as I was. It was good to see Phil and the others like Jim Bower heavely playing the drums, Rex Brown playing the bass and Pepper Keenan on guitar making contact with the audience. This and the fact that it will probably take a while before they will do The Netherland again with Down made it a fine evening on sunday the 21th of may 2006 at 013 in Tilburg.
