On the 16 November 2006 Vengeance and UFO made their appearance in concert hall 013 in the Tilburg (Netherlands). I’ve seen both bands several times and each time I had a great time. With the new album of UFO in mind I was curious to set list of the show. At 20:30 Leon Goewie (vocals), Barend Courbois (bass guitar), Hans In `t Zandt (drums) and Peter Bourbon (guitar) entered the stage and started the show with the clear message: "Take it or leave it". It was obvious that after a break of a few years Vengeance had a lot of fun on stage. With a lot of entertainment and a great sound this was the beginning of a great gig and with `Back In The Ring` they proved this to be true; Leon Goewie showed his famous crazy faces. One of my favourite songs `Dream world` was part of the set list, and what an amazing performance.
During `R&R Shower` the son of guitar player Peter Bourbon was playing a great solo (Peter watch out!). After `May Heaven Strike Me Down` the band ended their great show with `Arabia:sheik` Leon had a real beer-shower. The audience wanted more but it was time for UFO. As the stage was cleared and prepared for the headliner Muddy Waters shouted out of the boxes with `Manish Boy`, so it was time for UFO. The band opened with `Mother Mary` and I was surprised by the sound in a negative way; Vinny Moore wasn`t heard at all at the right side of the stage and Phill Mogg sounded awful. On the left side of the stage the sound was much better. During `When Della Foes To Town` Phill almost resembled Joe Cocker, in both his way of singing and his way of moving. Paul Raymond celebrated his 50th birthday and I wouldn`t be surprised if some members of the band already had a party that day, the song `Did I Drink Too Much` seemed very appropriate. Sometimes Phill looked more like a statue, his movements were rather slow and difficult. PeteWay (great trousers) did a great job, sometimes he might be a bit crazy but tonight his show was great.
Other songs of the Stranger Of The Night-album were `Lights Out (in Tilburg)`, `Love To Love` (absolutely great performance, great singing and guitar solo) and `Rock Bottom`; the long version with a great solo – although this solo didn`t really fit the song. That was the only moment that I missed Schenker, the other solos were played great by Vinny Moore.
The encores `Doctor, Doctor` and `Shoot, Shoot` were received enthusiastic by the audience, but I have seen better performances by UFO. I was actually disappointed a little bit by the UFO-show, fortunately the gig of Vengeance was very convincing. Next time a full Vengeance-show again.
