The new album “Pain” of these Australian rockers is superb. So I was looking forward to this live-gig.

Moustage
It was a hard job for the young stoner rockers of Moustage to do their support act show for an audience only waiting for Rose Tattoo.

With indefatigable enthusiasm the singer/ guitarist is trying to get through to this skeptic audience. Songs like ”White Magic” and “Homophobic Alcoholic” where so catchy; I even remembered the titles the day after.

The song “Down In Black” must have been a tribute to Black Sabbath, because the riffs were a mix of several Black Sabbath songs put together. With their 70’s-based stoner kind of metal they could get some heads moving, and even some people to sing along.

Rose Tattoo
Then it was time for the bad boys of Rose Tattoo. These veterans are still rocking, maybe even better then ever. The voice of “Angry Anderson” is still as raw and powerful as ever. This short man with the very BIG voice wants to kick some ass.

From the first shouts into the microphone he is really living his songs, with magnificent expressive vocals and body (and facial) language. Guitarist Pete Wells still has to get acclimatised, continuously smoking, and waiting for things to come.

Bass player Steve king is playing as you would expect by the looks of him: massive as a wall of bricks. This accompanied by the very capable Paul Demarco banging the drums, is a very solid base for this Rock and Roll party.

When they played “Bad Boy For Love” from the debut album as the second song on the set list, the party got really going, and the crowd started to sing along.

Also guitarist Pete Wells really got going during his great solo in this song, ending with heavy feedback, while blowing out the last smoke of his second cigarette. Again I was astonished by the way this man can play a slide guitar in such a heavy way.

Guitarist Rod Riley, who played a beautiful solo in “The Butcher And Fast Eddy”, also seemed to have a good time, constantly playing with the audience with his funny faces.

This performance contained a lot of other songs from the debut album like: “One Of The Boys”, “Astra Wally”, “Remedy”, “Rock And Roll Outlaw”, and off course the Aerosmith and Guns And Roses covered “Nice Boys”.

The latest CD “Pain” isn’t tattooed in my brain yet (though the album is f***in’ great). Maybe also due to the very loud volume, and me being too much into enjoying the show, I can’t recall any specific songs of the latest album being played.

Given that latest album, and having seen a great show again, I hope reverend “Angry Anderson” can preach his Rock And Roll religion to his brothers and sisters, for many, many more years.
