ROCKEZINE AT Wave Gothik Treffen

“No, I never had any problems with Goths”, says a taxi driver on the last night of the Wave Gotik Treffen, gathering over 19,000 visitors from countries from all over the world. Italy, France, Japan and even the United States are presented at the 12th time the blackest festival on Earth takes place.. Welcome in Leipzig…

On site of arrival, it’s obvious every black soul has found it’s way to this city. From getting out the train, to finding the rest of the Rockezine-crew – who arrived a day earlier – we’re seeing the immense diversity of the gothic genre. Army boots, dressed-up men, ballet-dresses, bigger than a small car, and girls walking around in practically no clothing.

After arrival in Leipzig we tried to find our hotel, which took a little longer than first intended, but actually was a good place, rented exclusively to Goth-people for this weekend. Then, we need to get our lazy asses to pick up press-passes, get some food and start exploring the venues. Since the biggest venue is located very closely to the press-centre, we decide to stay there for the rest of the night. We quietly eat our food, amazed by the variety of people walking here. I could go on and on for hours, but even after 10 minutes, it’s obvious this is the festival of see and be seen. Then, when food is finally conquered, it’s time to see spot some bands.

And that’s it. Already! After a long weekend of fun, quality bands, and loads of overpriced food, it’s back home. Sitting in the train for over 5.5 hours isn’t exactly the greatest thing to do, although most other people manage to get some rest. After such a weekend, that’s of course more than welcome.
Overall, the Wave Gotik Treffen is the happening for a self-respecting Goth. Wonderful people, a wonderful atmosphere and loads to offer, both musically, as well as on many other different aspects. Movie, theatre, literature, everything is here to be found. I am sure Leipzig can welcome me again next year!
