Enter Chaos
with Lady Martex on Apr 26, 2003

Although the bandmembers of this relatively new band may not be that old, they still have enough experience in the metal-scene to make something worth while out of this side-project, which has become a full-time band. The band recently released their debut album: Dreamworker. Lady Martex is so kind as to introduce the band to us and answer some other questions…

To me you are a new band, I hadn`t heard of you before, so please introduce yourself to our readers.
The idea of starting a new band was born in the end of December in 2001 and early in January I was completing a team. I made some phone calls to musicians I knew and, what was very surprising for me, practically everyone agreed to take part in this affair. They enjoyed the idea and possibility for self-realizing their own musical fascinations, that sometimes didn`t match to their main bands. Sending information to labels was another step. Meanwhile we were beginning to compose material. Everything was working just fine until April, when there were unexpected changes in Enter Chaos team. It appeared that on this record various members of Trauma, Behemoth and Devilyn could not participate. This situation was caused by obligations towards their main bands. In May 2002 we entered the Hertz Studio to record the full-length material.

Enter Chaos started out as a project consisting of members of various Polish bands and not the smallest acts (Behemoth, Devilyn, Dies Irae).

Now most of the members come from bands that I don`t know. Feel free tot tell something about these bands and are they worth checking out?
As I mentioned above changes in our group were caused by obligations towards the main bands. It appeared that it wasn`t so easy to fix dates. I think that personal changes didn`t lower the artistic level of the album because the new members have a great deal of experience and good musical skills.
Returning to the question. Ozz (g), L. Rambo (dr) and B. Low (b) are playing in DEMISE. This band released 3 melodic death metal albums. At present they are preparing themselves to record another album. They`ll probably release it in USA. L. Rambo played also in Black Moon and brutal death metal Damnation. Guitarists Verymetal and Seb-Off recorded one album with DAR SEMAI which unfortunately wasn`t released, although this is one of the best records ever done in Poland. In their group they played very Swedish oriented deathmetal.
As for AURAL PLANET, our programmer`s band, they`re moving inside ambient/trance climates. They have published 3 records so far and this is probably the best formation in that kind of music. Nowadays they`re promoting their latest album, they have made a clip for MTV and generally they`re doing very well. Our next guitarist’s (Mr. D.) band, AZARATH, released a very good debut album last year. AZARATH consists of members of Behemoth, Damnation and Hell-Born and they`re playing brutal death. They have just released debut and we`ll see what’s next (then). Finally my own modest person - I was a part of death/black metal act IMMEMORIAL. We recorded 2 albums and after that I left the group. I was also a session-singer in debut of LUNA AD NOCTUM.

You guys have 4 guitar players, isn`t that hard in the rehearsals and playing in a live-situation? And how did it come to this situation?
Excuse me! You are speaking to woman! (hahaha ). As far as the numbers of guitarists is concerned, it was our intention. We wanted this material to sound different. Every guitarist composed two or three songs, some were made by others members - drummer, bass player, vocalist and programmer. Thanks to that no one can complain about boredom. As for the rehearsals they aren`t and will never be so regular like in other bands. But during the life-shows we`ll have to reduce our team to two guitarists. On the other hand this is a good amount of guitarists because we can always change one for another.

With so many people in this band, in what way do you compose new songs and rehearse? And I can imagine myself that, considering the amount of musicians, you will not be complete every rehearsing-session. How do you guys deal with that?
As I mentioned before all material is composed by the guitarists. They will bring it along to the rehearsals or if they can`t make it they will send tapes to our drummer or bassist and to me. Actually the greater part of the band live close to each other so we can rehearse for live shows. Besides, bands like Lock Up or Borknagar can handle long distances, so why shouldn`t we???

With most of the members play in other bands, what is the chance of seeing you in a live situation? Will touring be possible, or can we just expect stand-alone shows, or perhaps none at all?
All members have declared for playing concerts so we shouldn`t have any problems. Honestly speaking in Poland only Behemoth and Vader play a lot and rest of the bands rather play from time to time. I think there won`t be any problems with playing single concerts, festivals and tours. So, If only anyone invite us we`ll play.

I was not fully impressed by `Dreamworker`, I`ve got the impression that songs were written pretty fast, in order to get this album done. What`s your comment on that?
Of course you are entitled to have your own opinion. But I think you`re wrong, because some songs, at least their frames, were ready before ENTER CHAOS was formed. Some of the riffs simply didn`t combine with style of main bands. These riffs were lying unused until "Dreamworker". Of course there are also new fragments that were done during the last months before we entered the studio. However I don`t think that there is a way to distinguish riffs that are only a couple of months old from those older. You may think that Mr. D`s songs are simple but this is just his style of playing.

I still like your album, but do you think you can really contribute something to the genre you play? I mean, the kind of melodic death metal you play, is not exactly one-of-a-kind…
First of all I wouldn`t call our music as melodic death. When I ask musicians to take part in ENTER CHAOS I told them that songs had to be in death metal style. And so it is. On this album there are 5 melodic, 4 more brutal songs and a cover from AT THE GATES. The result is that "Dreamworker" is only in half melodic. I could say that our debut is 50% Swedish death and 50% American death. We didn`t try to push ourselves to record genuine album however there are certainly Raiden`s ambient parts. "Dreamworker" had to be varied, not boring and probably we succeeded it.

Thanks for taking the time to do this interview, and the last words (recommendations, worshipping, thank-you`s, etc.) are yours!!
