Sturm

Sturm released oneof the strangest albums a ever heard a while ago. Doing a interview with them was the right occasion to get some info about this interesting release entitled "Fragmente".

Gutentag. How are you doing these days?
Hi, I am working hard at my distribution company, the rest of the guys are enjoying the hot weather and the sexy girls on the beach.

I read on your homepage your rehearsal room burnt down. Does this have any consequences for Sturm?
It was a hard time for us, we can’t play any gigs this year, we hope that we find a new rehearsal room soon and we can start writing songs for the next album.

As you probably already know are the reactions to Fragmente very diverse. In reviews I saw ratings ranging from 10 to 85 out of 100. Are you aiming for such diverse opinions?
Yes it’s very cool to see the different reactions. We are not a band for all people. The listeners will deal with the lyrics and the music, then they also will understand what we do. The reviewer who gave us 2 points heard our CD only once. Other reviewers listen to the album 2 or 3 times and give us 8 or 9 points, we see this done by reviewers again and again.

The album is entitled "Fragmente" (Fragments in English), fragments of what?
Of our life, our music and the whole world.

I myself mainly listen to metal so to me Sturm is fairly extraordinary. I can imagine there are some bands out there who sound similar to you. Can you name a few?
Bands like Richthofen, Schweisser and Rammstein (HAHA), these bands are from Germany. We are compared with many bands but I don’t think any other band like Sturm lives on this planet. :-)

You have been and probably always will be compared to Rammstein. Do you think that’s an honest comparison?
HAHAHA, I knew this question would come. No, they are a really good band and I love the music but they are stars and we are an underground band. But it’s an honour for us that everybody says ”Hey you’re like Rammstein”.

Nowadays German sung metal/gothic seems to be very popular, has this always been this way in Germany and are other countries just discovering this or is this a new phenomenon?
It was a surprise for us that many magazines abroad wanted to do an interview with us. In the last month, we did interviews with magazines from France, the Netherlands, Norway, England, Switzerland and Poland, but in Germany we only did one interview, this is very strange.

Were you drunk during the end of the recording session? As I listened to the hidden/bonus track and I hear a alcohol fuelled Germanised Sirtaki with porn movie soundtrack influences I can`t help wondering what the hell happened there.
Absolutely YESSS!! But it’s not a soundtrack; we had a lot of women in the studio, HAHAHA. It was only a joke for me but some of the guys have strange sexual preferences.:-)

All right, that concludes the interview, thanks for your time and below is some room to use for you to curse (in German) the non believers that gave “Fragmente" a low rating.
We need this room definitely. Thanx for your interest it was a pleasure for me. I hope we see you on the next tour, so we can drink a lot of beer. Greetings to our friends in the Netherlands.
