| My Insanity |
| with whole band on Aug 20, 2001 |
|
Curious as we are, we were eager to get to know My Insanity a little better. And I’m not referring to my own psychological state of mind, but to the band My Insanity. They released their new album “Solar Child” this year. A review on it can be read in the review section. | ||
| Could you tell us a little more about the band? My Insanity was founded in Autumn 1997 by me and Tobias. After a while Sascha, Mario and Rene joined the band. We recorded a demo, which sounded very shitty by the way, to check the label Century Media. They weren’t interested in us… Finally Xy of Samael got the demo, because he was busy forming his own record label (Parallel Union Records). He liked our music so in spring 1998 we recorded our first album “Still D.I.V.A.” in the famous Woodhouse Studios. After the release we made a tour with Samael, Grip Inc. and Lacuna Coil. That was kind of a highlight in our career. And now it’s “Solar Child” showtime… | ||
| Could you name a couple of bands that serve as an example for you? There is no band in particular that serves as an example for us because we don’t want to copy any other good bands. We like to listen to other bands like Coal Chamber, Tori Amos or Atari Teenage Riot. We still like to have an original My Insanity sound, not that of the earlier mentioned bands | ||
| Your previous album "Still Dreams in Violent Areas" was released back in 1998.Why did it take you almost 2,5 years to release this album? Our label was searching for a new distribution and that took quite a long time. “Solar Child” was recorded in spring 2000, and the previous album was released in 1999. Hence the delay… | ||
| Are you happy with the result? In what way do you think that you`ve musically improved since "Still Dreams in Violent Areas"? Yeah, we are very satisfied with the album. On “Still D.I.V.A.” we sounded colder and harder. We are more open-minded now which leads to the creation of a more open-minded style of music. That is what can be heard on “Solar Child”, I think and hope. Every song sounds differently, no two songs are alike. We wrote some songs sounding massive and hard while other are more ballad-like. Still the whole album fits together. I think we’ve found our own style and “Heavy Pop” is a good definition for it. | ||
| For "Solar Child" there were 20 songs written. Why didn`t you release "Solar Child" as a 20 track album? Yes, we wrote 20 songs, but six of the remaining 8 tracks that were not on this album were not quite good. They were more like rubbish bin quality, hahaha… So that’s why we released a 12 track album. The two remaining tracks were chosen to be released on an EP this Autumn | ||
| "Solar Child" proves that My Insanity is able to play a great variety of songs in a meritorious way. Which one of the songs on the album is your own personal favourite and why? Thanks for the compliments! I don’t have a favourite song, actually. They’re all favourites of mine. I love the entire album; it’s our baby | ||
| The production of the album was done by Samael`s Xy and the mixing was done by Waldemar Sorychta. How did the cooperation with the both of them work out? Both of them work very professionally and relaxed, it was all a kind of magic in the studio. We were a good and crazy team, which made “Solar Child” sound fantastic. | ||
| Personally I found Christian`s clean vocals quite faint, frail and at times uninspired, compared to emotionally powerful music, yet grunting blends in perfectly. Could you give a reaction on this? Do it better, record it and then send it to us. Perhaps if you’re better, we’ll let you sing My Insanity’s clean vocals (sorry lads, but as of yet I’m not considering singing outside of the shower, AM) | ||
| I couldn`t find your official website. Do you have one and what is your opinion on the Internet? Well, we do have e-mail; Myinsanity666@hotmail.com. A homepage will be online in a couple of weeks. The Internet is very important nowadays, since everybody is using it. It’s good for promotion also, that is if you have an address… | ||
| Any last comments to our readers? Thanks for reading the whole text, hahaha. We hope that you’ll see us on tour in autumn. Checkout the new My Insanity album and all will be fine. | ||
