Nasty Savage
with Nasty Ronnie on Mar 16, 2004

Old School Florida thrashers Nasty Savage are about to deliver their comeback album Psycho Psycho. Despite their busy promotion schedule Nasty Ronnie answers some questions concerning the band. Hopefully we will soon see them put the pain on us live across Europe!

First of all congratulations with your new album “Psycho Psycho”, a piece of original but more importantly genuine sounding thrash metal!
Yes, thank you very much for that awesome statement! It feels really good to know a lot of the press and media have liked Psycho Psycho.

Are you guys satisfied with the end result, and the way it sounds or are there things you would have done differently on hindsight?
If you are ever in your life totally satisfied with a musical project or body of work and think it’s perfect, faultless, or the best you can ever do, it’s time for you to quit and get out of the business; or you are just in love with yourself and think everything you do is great… Those who know do not speak much; those who speak much do not know!
I feel the work done in the studio is just a moment in time forever; that’s it, man; it’s very final so I always think and know I can always do better if I try... I look forward to the challenge and welcome a new search for the meaning of a new twisted reality fictional biography that I want to create and write.

Nasty Savage’s previous release “Penetration Point” dates from 1990, what were you guys doing in the period between that previous release and “Psycho Psycho” and why did you decide to make a comeback album?
We had time to live life, grow wiser, experience the dog eat dog world, ups, downs, families, relationships, jobs, homes, taxes… Hell man we grew up and we were struck down by hit and run years but we had the chance and here we are today with Psycho Psycho.

You can get on the stage and I`ll take you to the old school… is everybody in???

I read that the songwriting for your new album was rather complicated with David living in Tennessee and the rest of you guys being in Florida. How did you cope with that situation?
We made the most of it and all worked extra hard to pull it off. Dave came down 4 times before we went into the studio to work with Ben, Curtis and Richard. It was so cool in the early stages when Dave would mail me a CD of a song with a drum machine and rhythm guitar called song #1 or song #2. I would start to get visions and ideas of the feeling I had from the song as to reach out for a title. Dave delivered big time on the CD and as for everyone else they wrote some inspiring music too, I almost felt I was writing for the studio because when they were done with drums, bass, and guitars I was still writing lyrics to songs, even 3 months later it was still not complete .So, you see I wasn`t really rushed and everything fell into place.

Famous wrestler Chris Jericho is singing on several tracks. Was it difficult to get him to sing on the album, and what tracks feature his vocals?
I asked and he said it would be an honour. He was an old Nasty Savage fan from the 80`s and was totally into it 100%. He has his band Fozzy and I think it was a cool thing to do. On the new remake of “Savage Desire” Chris and I trade off singing parts of the song. He also does back-ups on “Hell Unleashed” and “Anguish”. We recorded a lot of the studio sessions for a very outrageous Nasty Savage Behind The Scenes Exclusive DVD to be released sometime in the next 20 years.

You are known for your punishing stage show. Would you like to tell us a bit more about it, and have you ever gotten injured?
It’s punishing alright!!!!! It’s also all real passion to create mayhem, the music takes control over me and I take the trip. You can get on the stage and I`ll take you to the old school… is everybody in???

When will we see Nasty Savage live in Europe?
Hopefully in 2004!!!

Obviously you guys have been in the scene for quite some time and I was wondering what were the best moments in all those years; and what goals does a band like Nasty Savage still have?
One of my best was playing in Poland in 88 for over 15 thousand people, as well as playing in Rio Brazil. The most awesome moment was our come back at Bang Your Head in 1998 after so many years, what a feeling!!!!!!! I would like to record another CD and work it for the next 10 years!!!!!!

Thanks a lot! I’ve tried to keep this short, since I know you guys are terribly busy with promoting the album at the moment. Is there anything I forgot to ask, or anything left unsaid?
Thank you Rockezine for the interest in Nasty Savage and the time for this feature!! It’s people like you who keep metal alive today!!! Keep up the great work! Please sign our guestbook: http://www.nastysavage.com to let us know what you think about Psycho Psycho.
