There`s seems to be a revival of brutal metal going on in Sweden at the moment. Visceral Bleeding just released their crushing second album "Transcend Into Ferocity" as an exponent of this uprising on Neurotic Records and the band was kind enough to answer some guestions concerning metal, Sweden, Holland and other things.
| Congratulations on the new album, how are the reactions and reviews so far? Thanks! The reactions have been great. Nothing but good reviews so far. | |||
| Did the recording go as well as you expected? Did Transcend Into Ferocity turn out as you hoped for? The whole recording session went great! We changed studio for this album, from Pama to Flatpig. When we met Robert Ahrling (the technician/studio owner) the first day we all decided that we would make this album as brutal, fast and evil as we could, and I think that we succeeded in that. We wanted our second album to be more brutal and dirtier than "Remnants Of Deprivation" and I think that Robert did a great job, he is great to work with. | |||
| It seems that Sweden re-discovered brutal music. Some time ago, more melodic forms of metal seemed to be more important but with your album and (among others) the latest Spawn Of Possession album (superb album, by the way), | |||
| Sweden delivers more brutal goodies than before. Is there such a thing as a brutal metal revival going on there? We started Visceral Bleeding just because there were too few brutal bands in Sweden. Today we have bands like Spawn Of Possession, Imperious, Insision, Immersed In Blood who all have great albums out. There are also a lot of great new bands coming up such as Septic Breed, Dissectum. So yes, you can say that there’s a ‘revival’ going on here... | |||
| You just returned form Fuck The Commerce; how did the gig go? The gig was awesome!!! We were the first band to play in the tent (because of the rain) and the tent was crowded. I think there were like 2500 people there. A big hail goes out to Anton and the rest of Pyaemia for starting up the mosh, you rule bro!!! | |||
| Your singer Dennis also plays in Spawn Of Possession, which band has his priority, as S.O.P is going well also? Spawn Of Possession. No question about that. The main reason is that he started SOP before he joined us. And now, as things are starting to happen with the Cannibal Corpse tour etc, he has less and less time to rehearse and gig with VB so we replaced him with a new singer, Tommy, who is great! There’s no way he will have time for both bands now we have a new record out as well. But we all talked about it and we didn’t kick him out or so, it was a decision we made together with Dennis and there are no hard feelings about that. | |||
| Are you fully satisfied with your label Neurotic Records? Hell yes! Ruud at Neurotic Records is great to work with and it was he who arranged it so that we could play at FTC. So I have nothing but good things to say about Ruud and Neurotic. I also know that he is eager to get us out on the road and that’s great. We love to play live, unleashing the fury… | |||
| Wasn’t it a big risk to ink a deal with such a young label? Or does it have its advantages because they’re more eager to promote a band than larger, older labels? No, we never hesitated to ink a deal with Neurotic. Dennis had worked with Ruud for a while as he runs the Unique Leader Europe office and we just heard good things about him. He already has all the promotion channels for Europe through Unique Leader Europe and a better chance for us to go on tour. The tour thing is one of the main reasons we changed label in the first place. | |||
| In my review I described your sound as a mixture of old-fashioned brutal death metal like Cannibal Corpse, Deicide, modern U.S. death metal like Suffocation and most of the Unique Leader roster. | |||
| Can you agree with this description or did I hear it wrong? Well, I agree. Peter who does most of the music is into Suffocation. Personally I think that we sound like a mixture of Suffocation, Monstrosity, Dying Fetus. But if you listen to the drums you can hear that Tobbe is influenced bye Darkane, Meshugga, specially in “Indulge in Self Mutilation”. I think that “Transcend...” is more “Visceral Bleeeding” than “Remnants...”. Each song has its own character and the anger is more intense. | |||
| A video of “Fury Unleashed” is also included on Transcend Into Ferocity. Why did you decide to film a videoclip and is it just for the album, or do you hope it will be broadcasted on music channels? The video is made for being broadcasted on music channels but we thought that it would be cool to be able to give it to our fans as well. I personally would like my favorite bands to put a video on their albums. Another thing is that it probably will be hard to get it broadcasted, you’ll know why when you see it, and then it’s great that folks who buy the album can see it. | |||
| Because you signed with a Dutch label:
- Who is our prime-minister?
| - What is/was the best Dutch metal band? Disavowed, Pyaemia & Severe Torture. | |||
| - Why is Holland so much better that Sweden? The weed? | |||
| - When are you guys playing in Holland? Next planned gig will take place 16 July at Little Devil in Tilburg together with Spawn Of Possession and Brutus. Be there!!! | |||
| Thanks for answering these questions. To conclude this interview, the rest of the space is yours to use for promotion, cursing, greetings or anything you like. Thanks for the interview. And for all you maniacs out there, get "Transcend Into Ferocity" today! Don’t forget to come to Little Devil and see us this summer. Stay brutal and support you’re local scene. Cheers! | |||
