Comeback Kid

You’re album is out now for a month, how have the reactions been?
We have received almost all positive feedback to my surprise. It’s always hard for a band to release their second record, because you have to live up to the first one (if people liked that in the first place) and you can’t write the same record, but people get their panties in knots when you write songs that are “too different”. So what we did, was write songs for OURSELVES and if people were going to like it, they like it. If not, at the end of the day we can feel content that we made the record we needed to make. Musically and lyrically. But so far, people are really digging the new record. I’ve seen a lot of good reviews, and 1 or 2 shitty reviews. That’s a pretty good ratio huh?

Facedown Records is some kind of Christian label. Are you a religious band?
No, Comeback Kid is not a religious band. There are Christians and Non Christians in CBK. We are 5 very different individuals with different ideas and beliefs.

Why did you choose Victory records? Were there any other record labels who would have liked to sign you?
We signed with Victory after talking with a few labels that were interested in us. Victory made sense for us. We felt that they could give us the push that we needed. They know how to get our music to the listeners and make people aware that we have a new record out. That’ s what we really wanted. Also, they let us do things our way and let us keep the same vision that we have always had.

How did the recordings go?
It was great! Bill Stevenson (Black Flag, Descendents) and Jason Livermore both produced our record at the Blasting Room studio in Colorado. They are geniuses. They would always push us for excellence in our performance and gave us some really cool ideas for the album. We are so happy we recorded with them.

How is the writing process in the band? Are you going to the practice place or…?
The writing process is pretty much like this… I will usually have a song idea that I will present to the band. Or sometimes it will be Jeremy with the song idea. We teach each other parts in Jeremy’s basement which is our practice space. Then we throw in other ideas as we go along. Everyone gives their 2 cents. We feed off eachother musically very well and we can figure out some pretty cool song change ups and stuff like that. It’s pretty fun actually!

What are you’re future plans? Are you coming back to Europe soon? A world tour maybe?
We just got off tour with Bane, With Honor, and Silent Drive. We are actually going home as I’m doing this interview. Coming up we have North American plans with a lot of bands. Terror, Modern Life Is War, Sinai Beach, Rise Against, just to name a few. This fall we will be heading back to Europe. Nothing is confirmed yet but it looks like we will be coming with Bane in October/ November. So be on the lookout.

What’s your favourite classic? And did this classic influence you by making music for Comeback kid?
The collection of songs by one of my favourite bands ever. Chain Of Strength – The One Thing That Still Holds True. That album has influenced me personally and in turn influences the Comeback Kid songs. They were a great band and their music really inspired me.

How is the Canadian hardcore scene? Are there some bands that we need to hear?
The Canadian HC scene is pretty kick ass right now. There are a lot of cities with very different types of scenes but the one cool thing is that there are strong bands coming out of Canada. Hollow Ground, Endless Fight, No Warning, Final Word, Blue Monday, etc.

Is there something I forgot to ask and you really want to say to the world?
Kyle from Comeback Kid likes to run around naked. www.comeback-kid.com
