Biohazard
with Evan & Billy on Sep 29, 2001

29th of September 2001, Rockezine had the privilege of talking to Evan (& Billy...the last minute). Time for some words from our hardcore NYC-men....

Hey, first off; how are ya ?
Doing quite well, thank you. Still recooperating from last week though, the tragedy back home, our album was released the day before it happened. I watched telly that mornin` and i saw it, I went up to the roof and i witnessed it there. Bizarre.

So how come you guys decided to re-join the tour?
Well, we never left the tour to begin with, we wanted to know if our families were alright, when we found out they were we wanted to play immediately.

It must have been horrible standing there not being able to do anything...
Well, we are americans, in fact we never thought something like this to happen to us...It`s a cowardly crime...

So it`s patriotism at it`s best?
We are americans, yes we feel patriotic, it was a cowardly crime, what did they want to accomplish by doing this. Religious fanatics are rational thinkers. They killed people working in offices...innocent lives.

When i read your lyrics, they don`t seem to patriotic...
We ARE patriotic, pro-america, i`m glad i live in a country where i can express my believes, and I am greatfull to live in america where i have the freedom to critisize the things i don`t like. But not just to bitch about, but trying to make it better, about social injustice and social appeal and political problems as we see `em in life. Knowing we can open the minds of the young people, because the young people are the parents & teachers and so of the next generation. We know we have a huge impact on peoples minds, we do, mentally, physically sometimes even spiritually.

But why the anger? How can you keep up this anger for so many years?
Well, open your eyes, when you`re on the street. E.g. : when i see a guy sitting on the sidewalk, i feel bad and i want to give him a dollar...then i realize that by giving him a dollar i won`t make the problem go away, it will not help this man to improve his life, to make something out of himself. 5% of the population controls 90% of the wealth. We got loads of poverty. When i went down to the disaster-area to help people offered all kinds of stuff like ; soda`s n chips n crisps.

Then it must be a good thing to see, that this tragedy made people move in a positive way...
I was so scared that we were gonna riot, scared about the outcome. The only thing that happenend negatively, is that there is alot of violence towards people from the east...
