Symphorce
with Dennis Wohlbold on Sep 08, 2005

Your new album "Godspeed" will be released in the beginning of September. Are you satisfied with the end result and what are your expectations?
I really think it’s our best album so far but I don’t expect anything anymore… there have been too many disappointments in the career of Symphorce.

How have the reactions to the album been so far?
The reactions are AMAZING. I haven’t heard a single bad word so far.

"Godspeed” sounds like a huge leap forwards and it appears to me that Symphorce have found and defined their own sound. Would you like to comment on that?
I think we already found our path with “Twice Second”, but Markus is now a full songwriter and brought some new freshness in our sound which makes "Godspeed" so diverse.

Due to Andy B. Franck being also the vocalist of Brainstorm are you not afraid that people will always compare the two bands?
Of course... I guess we could even play blues and the press would compare us. Both bands play power metal but Brainstorm are way more connected to the traditional style, and Symphorce have a lot of modern elements in their sound but if people can’t hear the difference - I cant help it.

Does the title "Godspeed? have a deeper meaning?
To me it only sounds good... hahaha.

The track "Nowhere” is absolutely fantastic and I personally see this song as what defines Symphorce in 2005 but aren’t you afraid that fans might think you are moving in a too commercial direction?
I love this song too and to be honest, if we would sell more albums with tracks like this I wouldn’t have any problems with it. We can’t survive with a couple of diehard underground fans who just enjoy bands which sell nothing.

With Andy being on a very tight schedule, appearing in two bands at once, how do you schedule recording, touring and promotional activities?
It’s a lot of stress and discussion between both band, haha.

How are the song writing duties shared within the band?
We have three songwriters (Cede, Markus and me).

What would you say if I said Symphorce is vastly becoming the European answer to Nevermore?
Well that’s a big compliment, because we love them very much.

Will we see Symphorce on a headline tour this winter in Europe? And are their plans for a tour in the US?
We are going on tour Europe with Sonata Arctica and Machine Men in September we also will appear on the U.S. Progpower.

I wish you all the best with the release of "Godspeed?, is there anything left unsaid?
Thanks for the interview and hope to see you on tour!
