Losa
with Urista on Sep 10, 2005

A while ago Losa released their album thought Metal Blade records. Time to have a chat with bass player Urista.

The beginning, please introduce yourself and the band.
My name is Urista and I play bass as well as handle the backup vocals in LOSA. We are a five-piece band from Dallas, TX (Mike – vocals, Dave – drums, Kory – guitar, Chris – guitar).

Are you and your band satisfied with the way the record turned out.
We are extremely satisfied with the way our album turned out. The opportunity to work with Mr. Matthew Ellard (Converge, Between The Buried And Me) was an experience we will not soon forget. He brought so much to the table and helped us achieve the overall sound we were looking for.

How are the reactions to “The Perfect Moment”?
For the most part, the media’s response has been pretty flattering to say the least. Of course, when you do things a bit different than what is perceived as “normal” you are always going to get mixed reactions. In a live setting the crowds have been rather receptive to us and I imagine it will only get better as we continue to play more. Our live show is quite a bit to digest for the first time.

Why did you choose for Metal Blade? Where there any other labels?
Metal Blade was the first label to contact us. They showed interest in us when no one else even knew who we were. Obviously, the opportunity to align ourselves with such a reputable force in the metal community was one we jumped at.

Are there any big future plans? Touring throughout Europe maybe?
Right now things are rather slow around here as a result of all the festivals going on here in America. We have a couple of opportunities on the table but nothing is set in stone at the moment. As far as heading to Europe goes, we would love the opportunity to play there as it has been a goal of ours since we started playing together.

What is your opinion on spreading music on the internet?
Personally, I can’t live without the Internet and I believe the same can be said for the “underground” music scene as a whole. With so many bands trying to make a name for themselves, the Internet offers many tools and resources to help one accomplish that goal. In regards to the downloading of music, I could care less if someone rips our music here, there, or anywhere. It exposes us, and our music, to those who otherwise might not have the opportunity to do so.

Do you know any Dutch bands? If yes, what’s your favourite?
Off the top of my head, I can’t say that I do. Got any recommendations?

What’s your favourite classic album?
Very good question; a tough one, but a good one nonetheless. Let’s see here…I would have to say any and all albums by Pink Floyd. Their music means more and more to me each time I listen to it. Having the opportunity to finally see them perform live at Live 8 was so inspiring. From what I hear, they might be getting back together to do a full tour. One can only hope!

What’s the weirdest thing ever happened on a tour?
Well, seeing as how we are still pretty new to touring nothing oto far out of the ordinary has happened to us…yet. I am sure we will get ours in due time.

  Some last words?
Many thanks to you and your readers for supporting NEW music. Think freely, with an open mind NEVER give into the masses!
