The Black Dahlia Murder
with Brain on Sep 17, 2005

The Black Dahlia Murder just released a new album on Metal Blade; time to have a chat with Brian Eschbach, guitar player and main writer of the band.

Are you and your band satisfied with the way the record turned out?
We are very happy with how the album came out. We like these songs a lot. And we are all very excited with how the overall sound came out.

How are the reactions to "Miasma"?
So far it`s been mostly great feedback to the album. A few people have said that they prefer the old album, but they`re obviously posers who don`t know how to listen to music.

Why did you call the album "Miasma", it`s some kind of illness isn`t it?
We called it that so everyone who encountered it would be forced to run straight for their dictionaries. We really care a lot about the advancement of people`s education.

What`s the main influence for your lyrics and who writes the lyrics?
Trevor writes all the lyrics. On this album, our experiences as being a band really shaped the lyrical content.

How is working with the new drummer, what happened with Corey?
I’m really not sure what happened to Cory, one day he just kinda disappeared and we had to find a new drummer. Zach, however, is amazing to work with and is insanely talented; hopefully he doesn`t disappear anytime soon.

Are there any big future plans? Touring throughout Europe maybe?
We have many plans at this time, and one of those plans is to come over early in the new year and tour the UK and mainland Europe.

What is your opinion on spreading music on the internet?
I think it`s probably the easiest way for people to discover new and different music, it really is a great forum for finding things you never knew about before.

What`s your favourite classic album and which album is currently in your discman?
My favourite classic album would have to be AC/DC`s “Highway To Hell”, but my discman is currently home to A Life Once Lost`s new album "Hunter".

What`s the weirdest thing ever happened on a tour?
I shook Will Smith`s hand once, which was a little weird.

The best concert you`ve ever seen..
RUSH
