| Deneb |
| with Leon on Jan 30, 2006 |

Normally it does take some time for a band to answer an email-interview becasue they are busy, on the road or just plain lazy. Deneb must have been all those three things together because it took Leon almost 9 months to answer my questions.
It they continue working at this neck-breaking speed I expect the new album will be released around July 2034.

| Greetings Leon, please introduce Deneb to us please. Greetings Roy !! Sorry for the delay of this interview. I hope that you won’t kill me for that, haha. Deneb is a band creating, broadly speaking, metal music. We can say that through the few years of our existence, our music has evolved and at this stage we can describe it as death/black metal. The band performs from 1995/96, however only in 1999 the first demo was recorded. For more details concerning out biography I invite you to visit our web site www.deneb.metal.pl | |||
| What exactly does the name Deneb mean? Deneb is the brightest star in the Cygnus Constellation (Swan Constellation) | |||
| “A Path Of Weakening” features a mix of death and black metal that’s not heard very often, especially not in Poland. Why did you decide on this particular style? “A path of Weakening” ?? You have some other version? “A Path Without Destination?” Admit it…hehe (erm...he’s right, I mixed it up with Deeds OF Flesh’s “Path Of The Weakening” RvdB But let’s go back to the point. Indeed, such combination of black and death metal doesn’t occur very often, especially on Polish yard. Why do we play this particular type of music? The answer is simple: we want to be, as far as it is possible, quite original. Personally, I’m fed with all the bands which evidently copy the music of the world’s leading groups. Confer yourself, you prefer listening another clone of Morbid Angel to some fresh, at times, kind of explorative stuff? We are simply fond of experimenting thus into every new record of ours we try to implement such relishes as, for example acoustic breaks, or even trash freaks. | |||
| Before and after the release of “A Path…” many line-up changes did occur is it not? Yes, Deneb has never had a cheer luck, as long as musicians are concerned. It is supposedly some sort of doom laying upon us. It became almost tradition that in the intervals between recording new material, our ranks slightly change. From the very beginning, there is a Wiry Sulakk ( who because of all the personnel instabilities has become completely bald hehe) | |||
| How is the underground scene nowadays in Poland? The underground in Poland from month to month grows in strength. New, promising bands appear, there are a couple of good zines and webzines, which facilitate promotion. (Greetings for Miras from RVF, Beret from Crypt’zine and Lysy from Necrocopse) | |||
| The demo has been recorded once before but you didn’t like the production. Are you satisfied with the result of the second session? After some period of time you come to the conclusion that something could be done better, for instance, recorded more professionally. It’s been almost a year since we recorded ‘ A Path…’ and if we were to record it now, it would sound a bit better. Yet, we are pleased with this release, as we have received a number of positive reviews and we performed satisfactory amount of concerts. So everything goes to a good direction. | |||
| “ A Path..” was recorded with Woitas from Moulded Flesh on vocals. Did you find a suitable singer yet? Our bass will answer to this question. DMB: The master with vocals was the most frequently appearing problem In Deneb. After our perennial vocal Muflon both with Popi had left, the band faced the inevitability of finding someone worthy of their replacement. So we invited our ex-vocal Wojtas to cooperate with us (he had already participated in the recording of “Diasparagmos”). Meanwhile, after a few rehearsals Kuba appeared. He had many interesting vocal patterns to offer, but despite this, he lacked decisiveness, motivation and proper approach to the project as a whole. But ‘seek and you will find!’ On the hindsight of Deneb appeared Sajmon (ex Katharsis), possessing powerful and progressively sounding voice. After few rehearsals Sajmon was accepted and joined the corps of Deneb. After the latest gigs and several dozens of spilled beverages he became a full-scale member of Deneb. | |||
| Did you receive any reactions from labels concerning the release of the demo? Unfortunately, no one so far has become seriously interested with revealing us, even though we had sent quite a lot of promo CDs to different labels. Only Eryk from Old Temple offered some cooperation, which resulted in the release of CDR 3way Split with Flagellation & Faeces. For the time being, we are patiently waiting for any response and we still send CDs to different parts of the world. Time will tell, if anything good will ever arise. | |||
| After the death of Pope John Paul II a couple of his albums are high in the charts in Poland I heard. Did you buy an album already? Yeah, sure. I bought 666 copies of his “Greatest Hits” album. | |||
| How do you feel about the recent uprising of Catholicism in Poland? Does that pose a “threat” for the metalscene? I do not know if you have heard about who had won in our latest presidential elections. Today our country is being called ‘Catholand’, we have a pudgy, squabby head and the ‘first lady’ is a total scarecrow… Does it influence our metal scene somehow? Of course. Now there are more antichristian texts written and more churches burn hehe. | |||
| Any last words? Thanks for the interview and one more time: sorry for such a great delay. Hailz to all Rockezine readers, and metal maniacs from Holland. Check out our new website at www.deneb.metal.pl. Stay tuned for our new album, coming up in summer 2006 and always remember to support the underground metal scene, m/. | |||
