Mindfold
with Remco on Apr 15, 2006

A few weeks ago I received the new album from the Dutch band Mindfold. I really liked the album so I really had to ask them some questions.

Can you please introduce yourself and the band to the readers from Rock-e-Zine?
Hi everyone. I`m Remco from Mindfold. We make rock music. Our debut album `Long Roads` is out now! Please take a look at our Myspace website: www.myspace.com/mindfold, listen to our songs and befriend us!

Are you satisfied the way the record turned out?
Yes, I`m very satisfied. The whole sound and package including the artwork has turned out the way we initially wanted it to be. With 9 rockin`, intense and beautiful songs (if I may say so) we`ve accomplished a great introduction for new people who don`t know Mindfold. And there are a lot of people to reach which is great!

How are the reactions so far?
So far the reactions and reviews are great! People love the Long Roads artwork and variation in songs so that makes me and the rest of the guys very happy. We really feel it`s growing everyday, a very satisfying reward.

Who writes the songs and how does a song come to an end?
Most of the time I start out with a guitar riff, lyric or idea in my head. I record it on mp3 and bring it to our rehearsal room. From there on we all have our share contributing to the music. In the past we always wanted to play the new songs immediately live but now we`re just focusing on our standard live set for our upcoming shows. New ideas and songs are saved for a 2nd album release next year.

How did you get in contact with Squash Records?
Our European booker Danny Kruithof from Superspazz Bookings worked closely together with Tom van Bergen (Squash Records), especially for the dutch screamoband San Andreas. When Mindfold joined the Superspazz roster (NL bookings are now done by Moonlight Drive concerts by the way) Tom got interested, liked the music and its potential and signed Mindfold to his label.

How was playing at the Pinkpop festival?
Playing Pinkpop was at the time our ultimate dream. The dream came through but only lasted half an hour! Haha. We played on saturday, it was rainy but the sun came through during our set, very nice. All in all it`s still one of the best memories of being in this band, rockin` the Pinkpop mainstage with your best friends in front of thousands of cool people who want to have a great weekend! It gave us a great chance to introduce ourselves to a larger audience.

What`s your personal favorite classic album?
Not the most easy question since I have lots of favorites. If I have to choose only one, it`s `Water and Solutions` from a band called Far. RIP. It was such a nice welcome during all that nu-metal crap in the late 90`s. I like it so much because I can identify with it; 4 normal guys rockin` out with their own music, not joining a musical trend, putting on make-up or wearing the latest fashion. Really good music always lasts. The funny thing is, we`ll be joining Jonah (Far) as his soloband in Nighttown, Rotterdam the 25th of may. Come check us out to hear your favorite songs!

Is this also a big influence for Mindfold?
Yeah, we all were immediate fans, and still are. Jonah is a true friend and will be since he keeps writing great music true to himself.

Which band is currently in your CD/mp3-player?
Lots of Smiths and Morrissey.

What`s the weirdest thing you`ve ever seen or did happen on a tour?
The weirdest thing I`ve seen on tour so far was a girl in front of the stage during our set using Yuri`s broken drumsticks in a blowjob imitation. The UK is crazy but we love it!

Does anyone of the band have any side projects?
No. That`s probably the best right now since we`re all busy guys. One band is enough at the moment.

What are the future plans for Mindfold?
Promoting the album and playing lots of cool shows in Holland and Europe. After that our goal is recording and releasing our 2nd album next year and touring the USA.

Do you have any famous last words?
This is definitely not our last interview so i will keep that for myself. Just come say hi on the road, ok? Greets!
