Now Crack ov Dawn released their second album "White Line", it was time for an interview with Spicy Sky, who does the guitars and the backing vocals.
| First of all, could you introduce Crack ov Dawn a bit? Envisioned and brought forth in Paris, in January Millenium+2, Crack ov Dawn was formed by guitarist Sexy Sadie and vocalist Vinnie Valentine, on the ashes of several previous born-to-loose Punk-Rock-Metal projects. As Sadie said, "We were all sweating our guts out since the release of Appetite for Destruction, so we thought it was time to kick some ass" . They knew Britney for a long time and they invited him to join the most glam Parisian band. At first Crack ov Dawn was a punk/metal band with pop influences. Mallaury met Vinnie and Britney in a Parisian club and he started to play with those drunk-heads, and then with his friend Xander. After some shows and a first album, (Dawn Addict), I joined the band with my guitar and my beers. Vinnie left Crack ov Dawn for personal reasons. | |||
| How would you define your musical style, rather goth or rather metal? Well, it’s not only goth or metal… We play Shock Pop, yeah, it’s a good definition of Crack’s music: beautiful catchy melodies with nasty guitars and balls. When you listen to Crack ov Dawn you can imagine Lemmy fucking Britney Spears in her little ass, while Bono’s trying to kill Sleeping Beauty with a shotgun. | |||
| Can you name some of the musical influences of Crack ov Dawn? We grow up listening to Guns N’ Roses, Metallica, Dark Throne, Sex Pistols, Laibach or Bon Jovi. And of course, you can find their feeling in our music! | |||
| How would you describe "White Line"? are there any clear differences in comparison with the previous release, "Dawn Addict"? It’s really difficult for me to give a description… But I would say the new album is more rock, more organic… In fact I think it comes from the new way we used to compose the songs. This time, we started with guitar rhythm, jamming together, or playing some acoustic guitar in holidays, drinking some cocktails… So it’s less electronic, less dancing, but there’s still the Crack Ov Dawn’s spirit! | |||
| From your point of view, what is your favorite track on the new album and why? I can’t answer to this question! Really, I’ve not a favorite one… I like for example Nightstar for the groove and the humoristic lyrics and New Dead World for the atmosphere and the feeling. | |||
| Can you describe the creative process of making this album? How did the songs get written, arranged, produced, the lyrics.. who does what in the band? Well, as it told you, the large part of the songs began in jamming sessions. I remember, well I think I remember, that the main structure of “Bastard city” had been written in one particularly alcoholic rehearsal! But some songs took several weeks to be finished… In fact we consider a song as OK when we are all happy of the result, when we want to play it, and listen it again and again! For the recording process we were not lucky guys, and we lost a lot of time in it! We recorded in a studio at Nantes, but finally we didn’t like the result. So we decided to record again and recompose and rearrange some parts, and we did that in our personal studio! That was finally a good solution because we had the total control on our album, and we are really proud of it now! | |||
| What`s the best and the worst part about being part of this band for you? The worst part of being in this band is that we drink and fuck too much. And the best part of being in this band is that we drink and fuck too much. | |||
Each stage is a memorable moment! | What is your most memorable moment being in Crack ov Dawn? Each stage is a memorable moment! We love the music, we love the fans, we love the stage, and I think it’s our more addictive drug.
| What are the plans for 2006/2007? Are there any plans for a tour, or a new album yet? We are doomed because I just learned that several shows have just been cancelled, due to some problems with the promoter… Anyway, we have to promote our clip “From My Shades”,that you will see soon on Net & TV, and we’re working on a tour for the beginning of 2007. | |||
| Anything left to say? I saw that you liked and understood our album, that’s really cool, because several metalheads seem to stop at the “sweet” vocals, and decide that’s not metal (i.e. not good) because there are no grunt vocals… Anyway thanks a lot for supporting us, and French kisses for the female readers. | |||
