Allfader

Could you introduce Allfader and try to describe the kind of music that you play?
Allfader is a Norwegian 5-man band with traditional metal instrumentation. We started out in 2001 as a two-man project and picked up additional members along the way. Our music is brutal, dark, epic and heavy as fuck. A blend of death, black and heavy metal with crushing drums, blistering guitars and dynamic vocals.

"I spent long hours as a kid wondering how they managed to make all those wonderful sounds"

Who inspired you to play music, and why?
From the moment I heard Iron Maiden for the first time, I was spellbound and knew I wanted to be in a band. The music was absolutely magical to me and I spent long hours as a kid wondering how they managed to make all those wonderful sounds. As time passed and I eventually got to the point of starting my first band, it was the fun of it that fueled me on and has ever since. For me it’s about being creative and doing something I enjoy.

Who would you name as your influences?
Obviously Iron Maiden, but also other old-school bands like Judas Priest, Accept, Deep Purple and Uriah Heep. But more directly related to our sound I’d have to say Morbid Angel, At The Gates, Suffocation, Emperor, Enslaved and Nevermore – among others.

Is there a certain message you`d like to pass on with your music? If so, what is it and why?
We’re just doing what we like, really…playing the music we want to create – and if others like it then that’s cool. We’re not trying to preach to people, but the music does have a rebellious undertone in some of the lyrics. However, if we were to tell people to not let people tell them what to do and rebel – and they do it – well, then that concept pretty much falls flat on its own ironic face.

What are the plans for 2006/2007?
We’re currently rehearsing and getting back into shape from our extended vacation. Our drummer is having a kid in November so we’re trying to make the most of our time until then so he can take some time off when that time comes. Also, a possible European tour is in the works for January/February 2007, but no details are ready yet. We’ll probably start writing new material after the tour and prepare for the next album, while doing some festival gigs in the summer.

What`s the best and the worst part about being in this band for you?
Nothing is bad about it. I could complain and say it takes up a lot of my time, but I enjoy every second of it – even the difficult times! This is my life, and I have to say I’m quite happy with it. The very best part of it is when we get together and make stuff that makes the hair stand on the back of our necks.

What does the artwork show/ should it express?
Well, there’s not too much left to the imagination. The cover is very direct, and paints a tragic scene which connects well with the last track on the album, ‘Cursed Chemistry’. There is a spark of “hope” in it too though – you’ve lost everything, nothing goes your way, life is a mess, the world is crumbling around you…but at least we will die together! Cruel, I know.

Which countries do you get the most reactions from in general?
This time around I think Holland and Germany are in the lead. We get great response from all over Europe though, and quite a lot home in Norway as well, especially considering this is our debut album.

  Anything left to say?
Check out www.allfader.com, listen to our music and check out the video. Buy the album if you like it, spread the word, and come say hello when we play somewhere near you!
