| Please introduce yourself and the band. Black Crucifixion started in 1991, in northern Finland, released two mini-albums and then began recording “Faustian Dream” album in 1996. It was not finalised until 2006 and now it is released by Soulseller records in Europe. If you are into dark and atmospheric metal with an edge, then I strongly suggest that you go and get it. | |||
| Can you tell me something about the history from the band? We began playing black metal when it was a very rare way to express one’s feelings. We were very young and had lots of darkness inside of us. Later we found more variance to our sound. | |||
| How would you describe your sound? I guess you can still hear our black metal roots in the song writing but the sound we create is more varied. | |||
| A while ago you released: “Faustian Dream”. How were the reactions on the album? Most of it has been surprisingly good. The album as a whole has been really well received by the music press, especially in the USA and also in Europe. Most of the reviewers have more or less got the album and liked it. It took ten years to record and write. We finished 18 songs for it and only half of them made it to the album, which shows how diverse the material has been. The album ended up sounding heavier than first attempted, which is due to our music growth. In 1996 we played much softer music. | |||
| What can we expect from you guys in the near future? We will work on new material. It is a slow process but will not take ten years. | |||
| Why did you choose for Soulseller Records? Weren’t there any other labels, maybe some bigger labels. Aren’t they the biggest? I have worked with SoulSeller since 1999 when they put out a vinyl version of our old album. Jorn is a fan, which makes him much more dedicated. | |||
| What’s your opinion about the church burnings in Norway? What is the point of destroying cultural history that has very little relevance to modern Norwegians as a religious symbol? If I would have to sacrifice years of my life doing time, then it absolutely would not be burning down things. But hey: who am I to judge? The judges over there already did it. | |||
| What do you think of the current state of metal in general? There are many interesting bands around but the metal scene is way over populated. | |||
| Is there something I can wake you up for at night? Well, if you need to burn a church in Norway, then don’t bother. To tell me that you want to finance us to play a tour of Benelux, then feel free to call – SoulSeller has my number. | |||
| What are your last words? Get “Faustian Dream” if you feel like hearing something interesting. And visit our website www.paasto.com/bc to get a clue about what Black Crucifixion stands for. | |||
