| The new album Holy Murder Masquerade is different from your previous album. The first thing is the concept of combining a comic with the lyrics and the songs. Why did you choose to release your album this way? Because we thought it would be fun to offer something different and original. No other band has ever gone this far when it comes to concept albums. And the response so far has been overwhelming. | |||
| Was the comic adjusted to the songs and the lyrics or was it the other way around? Well, we knew all what the story would be about. We had like a script before we did the lyrics. When we had all the songs, we divided the script in many equal chapters, and then we started writing the real lyrics. We never adjusted the music to the lyrics. The music is holy ground for us, and we rather fuck up the lyrics than the music. | |||
| Were the lyrics on your previous albums also about serial-killers and murder or did the drawings make this change? To be honest, I can’t even remember most of the lyrics or what they are about on our previous albums. This was the first time that we wrote lyrics, we knew what we were doing, and we had fun doing it. | |||
| Music wise the new album is also different from Hellucinate. There’re more mid-tempo songs on the new one. Was this a clear decision or was this just what came out this time? We didn’t really change anything on purpose. We only had one goal, and that was to make the new album more memorable, especially the choruses. We love when the crowd is singing along during concerts, and I think we made it easier for them on this album… haha. | |||
| How do you guys write your songs? Is it a group thing or is there one member who writes the music? Lately I’ve written all the music. Usually I record demo versions of a couple of new songs, along with programmed drums. Then I burn them on a CD-R and give each member a copy. So when we all hook up in the rehearsal room, everybody already knows the songs. Then of course we start fiddling around with some changes and alternative ideas. Sometimes we change quite a lot, and sometimes we don’t touch the original version at all. | |||
| What was the big difference between the recording process of Holy Murder Masquerade and your previous album? The main difference was that we recorded Holy Murder Masquerade in my own studio. And we did the recording during weekends and evenings, so of course it took more time than usual. This way we didn’t have to take free from our jobs, and we can instead spend that time on touring. | |||
| What bands influence Impious? No particular bands. What inspire me are different bits and pieces from all kind of bands and musical styles. | |||
| What are the future plans for Impious? (Maybe make a movie for the next album?) Yeah, we just found out that we got a two million dollar budget for the next album, so we’ll do a movie!! Haha! No, I’m just joking. Probably we’ll record a new album already by the end of this year, and it seems like it’ll be a concept-thing again. But first of all we need to tour now! We can’t wait to get our ugly asses out on the road again! | |||
| Anything I forgot? Nope, don’t think so. Thanks for the support and this interview. Everybody should check our Holy Murder Masquerade and come and see us on tour. Please don’t be afraid to approach us and drink a few beers with the band. That’s what we love!!! | |||
