Jovink en de Voederbietels
with Goliath and Cohen on Apr 15, 2002

On the 11th of May, this Dutch rock`n`roll band will release their new album "Klasse Goed Te Passe". The four Jovink guys have been going strong for almost 10 years now and sold many, many thousands of albums. REZ thought it would be nice to visit the band recording their cd at the Markant Studios in Heeze. Here we go...

As we enter the studio, bassplayer Goliath and guitarist/ singer Cohen (Gijs Jolink & Hendrik-Jan Lovink) are sitting at the mixingtable listening to the recorded Hammond organ to be used on the album. They`re very enthusiastic about these recordings and the other new material as well.

"Yes, this is a very good album indeed", says Cohen. "We tried to get a real live atmosphere on the album with a lot of variety in the songs themselves. Of course we won`t throw away our rock`n`roll touch, that would be a silly thing to do. But, we did try to put more diversity in the way we write our songs."

Then Goliath joins our conversation: "On the last album, we had only one possible hit, `Naodöst`, which instantly became our first hitsingle ever. With this new cd, I think we might as well have 4 or 5 possible hitsingles. Not that we wrote these songs on purpose, it just turned out that way."

With other guitarist Gorro (Richard Jansen) entering the studio after a while and having taken pictures from Cohen for our REZ Male Pin-Up Calendar (just have a look at Mister May!), it is time to listen to some new songs. What Cohen and Goliath told us, turns out to be a good reflection of what we hear right now.

Compositions like "Mooie Lisa", "Werken Is Mien Hobby" and the titletrack truly have the potential to become a hit. They really do rock and have a typical AC/DC-like groovy chorus which makes you sing along right away. Cool!

Last but certainly not least, Gorro tells us something about the technical aspects from the studio. "We are very glad we chose to record the cd here. The technician and producer really know what they`re doing and what we want. This is very important, having people around you who know how Jovink wants to sound like.

We`ve been around for almost 10 years now, we know what the Jovink sound is about. We used 28 from the 36 tracks, 20 for the elemental recordings and 6 to record all the choirs and Hammond stuff. And, working with ProTools is just great."

Better be ready for the new "Klasse Goed Te Passe" record and their upcoming "Rock`n`Roll"-tour featuring some 80 shows throughout the entire Netherlands. Jovink really rocks!
