Among the various artists and the albums they send to rockezine, sometimes we receive albums that don’t come from big labels. And even less frequently they don’t even come from small labels either, when we stumble upon a genuime piece of homemade effort. Such as this one right here.
Generally, it’s easy to pick out the home-effort albums. I guess you all heve heard a tape or recording of a friend who has a band and desperately wants to let you listen to it. Or worse, he’ll want an honest answer when he asks you what you think of it.
I’m only kidding this time, but you’ll know what I mean. That lo-fi, barely mixed and definitely self-produced quality, the neon-flashing sign that says :this album is made by ourselves. | |
Well, Swansdown is no exception on that part, it’s definitely homemade.
What is an exception however, is that you can also clearly pick out the effort they have put into making it sound as good as they can possibly get it. So what if the recording could be better? So what if the balance is off or the guitars sound a bit cheap? If the sound is this tight I see no problems with that. Only downside is that they will definitely need to use a real drummer in the future.
