For Classic Rock Productions this year will be the year of the “Live In America”-series. During 2003 the label will release several live DVD’s from some of the greatest names in the history of rock music. Among them are live recordings from Caravan, Asia, Nektar, Uriah Heep and Focus. The Asia DVD is one of the first in the series and was filmed on October 5th 2002 in Patriot’s Theatre, New Jersey during the 20th anniversary tour. The tracks on the disc vary from earlier songs like “Sole Survivor” and “The Heart of the Moment” to “Awake” and “Free”, from their latest album Aura. It’s amazing that the earlier songs are played with the same devotion like years ago.

These songs are simply timeless.

The footage on the DVD is shot from multiple angles; the music is of course in Dolby digital surround sound. I remember a gig Asia played in Oberhausen as part of the European leg of the 20th anniversary tour. The power of the band was absolutely overwhelming. This characteristic of an Asia performance is very well captured on this DVD, both in sound and in vision. “Live In America” is also available on a double album.
