Battlesword from Germany released their debut album on Iron Glory Records after releasing just one demo; based on that you might think that this is a revolutionary new and original band or a band with exceptional song writing skills and playing capabilities. Neither of them: melodic death metal in the vein of for example Amon Amarth, it is to be considered not too original and the songs are decently written and played, but certainly not superb. So “Failing In Triumph” is not a modern day classic nor will it ever be in the best metal records of all time hall of fame. | |
One point in their favour is singer Patrick who gives “Failing In Triumph” a very aggressive touch with his guttural grunt. His voice is much lower than the average melodic death metal grunts, which tend to be much lighter. “Failing In Triumph” is a decent debut album by a young band that still has enough time to hone their skills and come back with a better album. I’m sure of that. (Roy) |
