The four songs on the second demo-cd entitled Second (is this a coincidence or what?) of this young band from Holland, show absolute potential. They sure enough don’t seem to run out of idea’s. The songs form a whole yet are still able to stand on themselves. Soulstitia create a type of gothic metal that can probably be compared to Trail Of Tears, although that comparison doesn’t cover it fully. It sure makes sense though, because Soulstitia, like the Norwegians, mix slow blast beats with more atmospherical pieces. However, they give their own twist to it, making use of some (minor) industrial influences, but also some bombastic pieces in the vein of Tristania (thumbs up for their keyboard player!!).

Mind you, these are big names to be compared with. Before Soulstitia will reach that level, the band still have a long (be it not that long, but still…) way to go.

The female singer has a really good, trained voice. Besides this the band’s male vocalist is also torturing his vocal-chords in a way that pleases my ears very much. As I said before, the potential is absolutely there, although some minor playing faults can be heard (drums and guitars mostly, but mark my words, these are only minor faults!!). The production, although not bad, could have been better. But hey! For a second demo, it’s quite alright. Their music has the capability of capturing the right atmosphere, and that is, in my humble opinion, one of the essential points (if not the most essential!) in gothic metal. So all in all, a good product from a band we will hear much more of!! Oh, and for the rating; since this is only their second demo, they absolutely deserve this grade!!
