Ad Vance is still proceeding in the direction they’ve been going into the last couple of years. Although the line up has changed quite a bit, founder and lead guitarist Olav Lenk (ex Velvet Piper) and second guitarist Rainald Konig still stand for solid traditional eighties metal.

The Helloween and Rainbow influences can still be heard, yet the latter is reduced to a minimum, compared to their former albums (especially last years Only Human).

Instead there are more mid-tempo songs on the album, sometimes reminding of the later Whitesnake. Also, there is more attention for the riffs, and the lead guitar is less prominent in the final mix.

Except the more radio friendly (commercial) approach in production and arrangements, no real surprises here. Still, The Evil In You is a varied album with power and catchy melodies. So for the fans of the genre, this is one worth buying.
