These folk metal heads are one of the best live bands there are. In their 11 years of existence and ten official studio albums they never produced a live album and now, after singer Martin Walkyier left the band, here is their first live recording. In 1995 they played among others (like Tiamat and My Dying Bride) at the campsite on the Dynamo festival. 10.000 Crazy fans made this one of the most memorable shows of Skyclad ever. Most of this set was recorded and you can hear it on “Another Fine Mess”.
The sound is very rough and no overdubs are done. I think the sound is direct from the soundboard and so is a bit thin and flat. Nevertheless they captured the atmosphere of this gig very well and brilliant versions of “Cardboard City”, “The Wickest Man In The World”, “The One Piece Puzzle” and “Just What Nobody Wanted” are very nice to listen to. | |
I must admit that this isn’t the best live album ever and such a live band could produce a better one. That doesn’t matter at all if you were there at this gig (like I was) and so I still like the atmosphere of these recordings.
As a bonus we get four remakes of songs in an acoustic version. They once brought out this “Outrageous Fourtunes” E.P. as a ‘promotional give away’ with the album “Answer Machine” in only 1000 copies. So now you can hear some very nice versions of “Sins Of Emission”, “Land Of The Rising Slum, “Alone In Death’s Shadow” and of course “Spinning Jenny”.
This entire album is an absolute must for all Skyclad fans.
