With their sparkling debut called “Hatred Shaped Man” Lehavoth proves that Israel has more to offer than car bombs and terrorist attacks. And without any doubt I can say that this is one of the better death grind releases during the past few years. Lehavoth started out as a black metal act in 1995, one of the first at that time (together with bands as Melechesh, TJ). But due to military duties of the band members, the band’s activities had to stop for over three years. After this period the band joined forces again and recorded “Hatred Shaped Man” back in 2000 at the Soundlab Studios in Sweden with no one other than Mieszko Talarczyk (Nasum) behind the knobs. And the result certainly needs to be heard. Lehavoth has created a balanced album featuring extreme violence combined with some rolling death metal drums and some crust parts. | |
And the best thing is that Lehavoth is one of the few acts nowadays that seem to have something like an own sound; especially by varying rhythms and not so much the riffs. This lends the songs their own character, together with the ultra low tuned guitars. Just check out songs as “Ghost Nation”, “Reptile” or “Rodents Among Us” and you’ll know what I mean. Vocally everything also sounds alright. A higher grind-like scream is combined with a lower death grunt that suits the music perfectly.
Lehavoth needs to be heard by a bigger audience, so check them out on their European tour with Impaled (US) or at the Fuck the Commerce Festival. If you have any problem finding this release at your local record store, contact the record company: info@fadelessrecords.com. (Teun) |
