This is not a regular album from Cyber Axis. The Prophecy is a mini-cd which the band released to give a sign of life to their fans. It seems they were away for a while but are now back.
Anyway, this mini-cd contains one new song, a Kylie Minogue cover (really!) and three remixes. I am not familiar with Cyber Axis, so maybe this is not entirely comparable with other work. Let’s give it a shot.
The new song on The Prophecy is the title track; starting with an intro filled with electro pop influences from the eighties, which I hate. The track quickly changes into something better but sadly the childish synth lines still surface now and again. Taking these out of consideration we’re left with enjoyable vocal patterns over a thick layer of synthesizer and guitar parts. Basically a mixture between metal and electro. Track two is a boring cover version of Kylie Minogue’s Can’t Get You Out Of My Head. Where as the original is bearable only because of the video starring miss Minogue; the Cyber Axis version lacks this and the result is predictable and boring. | |
Did I mention the song is boring?
The first remix is entitled “Pleased”. I’m not familiar with the original but certainly sounds more appealing than the previous track. Again electro mixed with metal resulting in a danceable song. This track will probably be played in clubs a lot. The title track remix is next and I have to say that this is way better than the original. Gone are the annoying synth parts and the track instantly sounds a lot darker and gloomier. One could complain about the German accent of the singer but in my opinion this contributes to the atmosphere of the music.
The last track is another remix; an old resurrected Cyber Axis track, in line with the rest of this mini-cd, a fitting closing chapter. Finally I have to say that I’m not too familiar with this kind of music so it is very well possible readers will have a completely different opinion about this mini-cd than I have. So the rating is even more subjective than usually. However, if you’re into electro, especially from the late eighties you should give it a try.
