Psychobilly’s undertaker. This is the band that gave rock and roll a makeover, more than 25 years ago: The Cramps from NY. Still cult after all these years; check out the cover. For anyone who is not familiar with The Cramps: This is not for gothic fans. Let’s not take the band’s rockabilly Halloween party outfits and image too seriously. Shouldn’t be a problem; I mean, the image, the names and song titles like “Dr. Fucker MD”, “Elvis Fucking Christ” and “Mojo Man From Mars” only add to the entertainment. Nothing wrong with that, ´cause The Cramps are still entertaining even after all these years. | |
Still making use of that dirty underground feel (and smell), mainly thanks to that reverb-filled rock and roll sound. Sloppy bass, sharp guitar distortion put effectively to use in typical rock and roll chords and rhythms. In all its kitsch this is truly the perfect soundtrack to any John Waters film. Nothing wrong with that either. Because it’s all about having fun.
Fiends Of Dope Island is released on the band`s own label Vengeance. If you enjoy Fiends Of Dope Island as much as I did, check out the many Cramps re-releases – both on cd and vinyl - planned by Vengeance Records.
