Corpsecandle is a four piece band from the Netherlands, who produce some decent melodic and diverse black metal; a style, which they themselves call “blast fast black thrash”. I guess I agree on that term, because it indeed describes the elements that their music consists of. There are plenty of fast blast beats, but there is also enough room for some more melodic mid-tempo parts, and even some slower parts. Thrash elements are also to be found in their music, which makes the album as a whole very enjoyable to listen to. Their style of music is probably mostly comparable to a somewhat spherical combination of elements of Dissection and Naglfar. This means good song structures, diverse, rather complex drums and some very nice guitar-riffs, although the guitars aren’t always played as tight as I would’ve wanted them to be; so the sound sometimes becomes rather messy. | |
The vocals are also not my favourite, they sometimes sound rather forced and squeaky. Still, most of the time they seem to convince me, so I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt. Overall, this demo is very enjoyable and I think they surely deserve their right of existence, especially when you take in consideration that there’s a whole lot more garbage out there these days. So yes, I like them and I really look forward to their next release, since this CD was recorded over a year ago. If they’ve evolved, and I’m sure they have, I’m very curious to hear their next release!
