Australian duo Halo (R Allen and S Klein) are one of the latest signings to Relapse`s evergrowning harsh roster. However, the addition isn`t about death, grind or even noisecore this time. Halo is far away from that, and might fit just as well on the experimental offspring Release Entertainment: Halo is about a `full-frequency blast`. One of the first references you might think of while listening to Guattari is probably Godflesh, and in a way the entire album lends some influences from them, but the overall sound is a lot more like Justin Broadwick`s other band, God; and even a comparison with his third band, Techno Animal, might not be so strange. In seven long songs, Halo displays a fine act of sound-terrorism through heavy basses, pounding drums, distorted vocals and a bucketload of noise and ambient sounds thrown in.

With an excellent production, they manage to reach a pretty low sound that invades your body and pounds on your organs; the sparse samples add to the haunting atmosphere the music transfers. However. Guattari, even though it is a very good album, doesn`t live up to it`s big brother God; I`d recommend their early albums over Halo anytime. But then again, perhaps you already own those and you`re looking for something new... then you might find exactly what you like in Halo.
