Well, things are fairly simply when you are about to listen to an album from a band called Steel Attack; you know what to expect. Steel Attack indeed deliver raging fantasy power metal. Predator Of The Empire smashes into you like the proverbial battle hammer with pounding drums and flying guitar riffs. Although it’s all terribly predictable (especially the song “Heavy Metal God” which is truly as cliché as it can get), it is nevertheless of an excellent quality. I mean, these Swedes really know how to write good songs with excellent melodies, good choruses and powerful riffs that just stick to your brain. On top of that, the whole album is really tight with a decent production.
Most of the songs are up-tempo and true power houses, especially the sing-along choruses stand out and you find yourself singing along without even noticing. | |
The songs are all easy to recognize and it takes only a couple of spins until you know each and every chorus. This recognizability is definitely the strong part of Predator Of The Empire. Singer Dick raises the level of Steel Attack another few notches with his powerful yet clear vocals. This man is truly a blessing in disguise, for without the aforementioned vocals this album wouldn’t nearly had the same impact as it has now and, most likely, would have drowned in the enormous mass that is the current power metal scene.
All in all, a good album but don’t expect anything groundbreaking. If you are looking for good straightforward power metal then this album is simply a must but if on the other hand you like your music a little bit more original then this might not be the release for you.
