I`ve never been a big fan of the Polish gothic scene, but there are a few exceptions to the rule. One of them is Fading Colours, which released a pretty nice album a couple of months ago, and the other is Closterkeller, one of the older goth-bands in Poland. Founded in `88, the band are a big name in their home country and deserve to get heard in other (European) countries as well. However, thé big disadvantage of this band is that all the songs are sung in Polish. That`s probably the reason why an album like "Blue" or "Scarlett" didn`t quite reach proper ground outside of Poland. This all has to change with the re-release of "Graphite". Originally recorded in 1999, the album has been completely re-sung by Anja Orthodox. | |
The music isn`t touched, but all the lyrics have been translated into English.
As the first English album, it`s easy to critize the enormous accent of the singer, but besides that, there`s actually very little that can be improved on this record. It`s a wise choice to release this album in English, because it simply ís Closterkeller`s best record to date. The use of keyboards are a nice aspect as the rock approach to new wave songs gently proove why this band is so big in their home country. I hope they`ll do some more English albums and that the accent will deminish in time. (Eelco) |
