Inme, a threesome from Essex (close to London) released their debut album Overgrown Eden. A debut album to be proud of. Dave McPherson, Joe Morgan and Joe Morgan (ex-Grade 8) are bringing us a mix of punk, emo, and alternative rock. Sometimes called emocore, but I wouldn’t label Inme like that, since emo is mostly related to bands like Hot Water Music or Codeseven. No, Inme is just a good rock band.

However, this doesn’t mean they’re not emotional. No, they’re emotional with a capital E. Think of emotional and double that. That is Inme as well. If you hear Dave crying out his lyrics, you will get the shivers. Like in “Firefly” where he sings ‘It’s all over now, you killed me’, that’s just genius. Or in “Underdose” where he sings ‘it’s all gone wrong’ for about 14 times. Beautiful.

If you’re looking for intelligent guitar work or complex drum patterns keep on looking, cause you will not find them on this album.

But it’s absolutely an energetic and catchy piece of work. You can almost feel the energy coming from the band, maybe that’s because of the raw-production (this does not mean bad production, it just sounds a bit raw). If I can give the guys a tip for their next album it would be that Dave should let go of his high-pitched vocals. It sounds uncomfortable (“Her mask”, a great song, except for the ‘high’ vocals…). Also, they should spread the good songs better over the entire album. The superb songs are on the beginning of the album, and the lesser songs are at the end. This sometimes frustrates to listen further than track 5.

All in all, a great album from this threesome. I hope it will bring them further (into their Garden of Eden for instance :P). They are fit for the radio and fans of emo, grunge and punk may enjoy this album. That’s an advantage (yet sadly, also a disadvantage).
