No matter how much you read about bands and music, how many concerts you visit and how much information you share with fans, friends and internet, there are always bands that escape your attention. Well I guess current CD prices don’t really help either. Any way, End Of Green escaped my attention so “Last Night On Earth”, the band’s latest offering, is my introduction to them.
Their heavy gothic rock did not prove to be a challenge, as I initially expected it would be. First of all I am not a big modern gothic fan (the singing female variant that is) but when it comes to Sisters Of Mercy or Type O Negative type stuff I’m willing to listen. End Of Green is this type of stuff. | |
Heavy on the dark vocals, heavy on the dark atmosphere, heavy on the guitars. Heavy. Never too fast, never too slow. Plus, the band doesn’t need keyboards to make up for a lack of atmosphere. Just listen to “Tormented Sundown”, “Demons” and “Queen Of My Dreams”.
Production wise there’s only one complaint: the drum sound is very thin, with all the heavy guitars and reverb the drums kind of get sucked into the rest of the instruments. All in all “Last Night On Earth” turned out to be a very nice introduction to End Of Green, for me anyway. If you are into atmospherically dark and heavy rock go check this album out. (Marc) |
