Hmmm, Papercut Homicide… That sounds like a really painful way to die, and I guess that is what they are trying to sound like on their debut-album; really painful and tormented. And they succeed, partially…
In their biography it is stated that Papercut Homicide would be a lethal combination of Cephalic Carnage, Dillinger Escape Plan, Pig Destroyer and Acid Bath. Well, they sure sound like the before mentioned bands, but they miss the quality that makes these bands stand out from the rest. It is nice, and they have some good ideas. It is just too much influenced (read: copied) by the bands that have obviously inspired them the most. | |
The production does not help that much either, the drums are rather flat and thin, and the sound differs very much between the songs. The guitars are good, but could have been fatter at some moments. The vocals are twisted, as are their lyrics, but they seem to be heavily influenced by Pig Destroyer. But they just lack the amount of quality Pig Destroyer possesses, textually and musically.
All in all this recording cannot keep my attention, sure it has its nice moments but overall speaking, I wish them better luck next time…
