The Mexican duo Hocico are back with a new EP, after last year’s “Signos De Aberracion”, an album that made it to the top of my 2002 year list. After appearances at numerous festivals and well-visited club tours, it is easily said that this band are one of the more popular industrial acts of this time. This new EP, with a title that probably no one can pronounce, features no real surprises for people that are familiar with this band. There’s four new songs on it, of which one is an intermezzo; as well as a re-recorded version of “Silent Wrath”, a song that was previously available on the “Signos De Abberacion” box edition. The version with lyrics however doesn’t have the impact the instrumental version had.

Most attention goes to the two other songs on this record: after opener “Grito De Las Entrañas”, there is a wonderful song called “Ruptura”; and then there is the long-awaited “Ladykiller”. This particular last song was announced way back, is being played for almost half a year now and is said to be one of the better Hocico songs. Wrong. The song is okay, nice to listen to, I can imagine why this is a good song to be played live; but on disc there is a certain part of the impact missing, so that we’ve come to the conclusion this record has very little to offer for the real fan. A shame, really. The expectations were so high.
