Outburst has been on the metalscene for a couple of years now and perhaps sick and tired of waiting to be signed by a half-decent label, they decided to release this mini CD themselves. It sounds like early 80’s Metallica music, but louder, with more vocal variety and Overfiend contains five songs that have been recorded in one day last year, and one song that has been recorded almost two years ago. So it is not their newest material and they didn’t have a lot of time recording, but it still sounds pretty good. No, make that really good.
Maybe the cheap production makes this CD even better, because this way it sounds more brutal and not overly produced. Another good point is the rhythmic variety. Although all songs go fast, they do mix rhythms very well. | |
Within songs, but more importantly: two successive songs won’t start with the same pace and rhythm.
The singing is pretty original, a clean voice mixed with occasional heavy metal-like vocals and some grunts. You don’t see that everyday, again, good variety. The drums are fabulous, fantastically fast, inventive and have lots of different rhythms. The guitarplay (the spelling test keeps telling me that word does not exist, but I don’t care) is great; the solo’s come at the right times and there are fast and many riff-changes. Too bad the fun is already over after 22 minutes. Call Roadrunner right now, and tell’em they have to sign this band. If they don’t want to, just figure out something to threaten them with (torture perhaps?). (Frank M.) |
