After splitting up and Tommy Victor joining Glenn Danzig’s band it seemed Prong was finished; until all of a sudden last year Prong released a live album and did an extensive tour. Both the tour and the live album left me craving for more and here it is: Prong’s first studio record since “Rude Awakening” in 1996. Compared to that album Prong has improved. The sound is heavier and darker and the riffs are as catchy as ever. Tommy Victor’s voice is aggressive and self assured as in the pre-‘cleansing’ period. | |
Actually, “Scorpio Rising” reminds me of the old Prong but with a bigger and better sound. The songs are more varied however. Prong keeps evolving. The use of samples is limited compared to the last two albums but the song writing has continued where the band had left off in 1996. The band is as driven and powerful as we know them. Compared to “Rude Awakening” maybe even more so. Good to have them back. (Walter) |
