According to their bio they are the loudest band on earth. Well, if you turn up the volume anything can be loud. If you want to be the loudest your sound should invite, no force people to turn it up. And Dead Meadow’s sound doesn’t do that. Their mix of indy and stoner sounds muffled and far off. The guitars aren’t loud, hard or rough in any way. The drums are muffled and unclear as well. No, they’re not the loudest band on earth. What are they then? Too darn soft. Some of the riffs are really good but the band doesn’t do anything with them.

It sounds like an alternative band just discovered Black Sabbath and Hawkwind and thought: ‘Hey, Hard Rock is pretty cool, let’s try that for a change.’ But it just isn’t heavy enough. The weirdness in the music is reminiscent of Well Water Conspiracy but Dead Meadow just isn’t weird enough. Too bad because there are some pretty good ideas on this record but they can’t seem to turn them into good songs.
