BBLLUURRGGHH, Sinister is back, and how. It certainly took them a while to found time and inspiration to write the next episode of the Sinister story. The side projects of drummer Aad and the vocal line-up changes probably have something to do with that. But finally, three years after Sinister released “Aggressive Measures” they’re back with their brand new “Creative Killings”. Fact is that Sinister chose a difficult time to release a death metal album like this because of the great market for extreme death nowadays. But fans of this genre just have to listen to another Sinister classic. I have to admit that “Creative Killings” sounds as the logical next step. All typical Sinister ingredients are present; The fabulous blasts of drummer Aad, tight bass playing of Alex, typical Sinister guitar riffs of Bart and the death grunt of female (!!!) vocalist Rachel whom many of you might know from Occult. | |
She first played live during a gig in 013 last year so the line-up change didn’t really surprise me. And she certainly did one hell of a job with her low grunts. Sinister sounds in top condition and the songs have also gained variation adding some slower parts into their songs. All in all this has become one of the better (did they ever make a bad release?) Sinister and death metal releases of the past months. But don’t expect them to be original. And if you ask me, that has never been their intention. (Teun) |
