A metal CD in my hands only happens on a rare occasion. I enjoy every bit of Kovenant I get, as well as most dark industrial metal material, but that’s basically the end of the line for me. Receiving this Desdemona album was therefore a very weird thing. And although it has been released 6 months ago already, I’d have to say I wish this album arrived so much earlier.
All musicians on this album prove their quality, singer Agata Pawlowicz is cuter than Evanescence’s Amy Lee and Desdemona’s songs are strong and heavy.
Desdemona is a band from Poland, formed around four members, and they released the album “Stagnacja” on Morbid Noizz records, 3 years earlier. They have taken huge steps forward since then, and after performances at Castle Party and Dark Stars this band has proven their experience is a very strong factor. | |
Whilst Agata’s voice reminds of Christina Scabbia’s (Lacuna Coil) at some points, the link to gothic metal can hardly be made. A comparison to (very soft) Pantera can be made during a song like “Void”, whilst it is exactly that song that also reminded me of Ram-Zet, due to the quickly over shifting speeds, fast drumming and thrilling guitars.
I am definitely not an expert on the field of this sort of music, but mostly due to Agata’s wonderful voice and the excellent use of a drum machine, this album proves its worth. I didn’t know Poland could produce such quality. (Eelco) |
